I'm curious what gf0012 has to say on this. So he figured that the propulsion system would probably not be as powerful as seawolf and hence would likely result in a somewhat slower vehicle(but not slow by anymeans). He figures that they probably toned this boat down a bit to keep the costs down, since in 99% of circumstances subs are creeping around and not trying to get from A to B in the absolute fastest times. He knows from talking to his sub friends that the seawolf is the race car of ocean going vessels. Los Angeles Class - Approximately 35-40 knots depending on the boat(some are just considerably faster then others). His best guesses on the true max speeds of other boats are as follows. The ohio class on the other hand handled like a beached whale in comparison, while nimble for a boat of it's size, it couldn't manuever for crap compared to a smaller attack boat. It banked VERY sharply when it turned, and often was able to outmanuver just about anything. He basically described the Bergall(which was a sturgeon class boat) as handling like a fighter. It was also interesting to hear him describe the differences in how those to boats handle. He also served on Ohio class boats and said they could go about 30. He says that the sturgeon class boats(the ones that preceded the Los Angeles class boats) had a top speed of about 30-35knots depending on the boat(he says his was a pokey boat and could only peak at about 32). First off before I get grilled, I'm going on what my dad told me(16 year submariner).
